Elgin City continue good start to William Hill League 2 season as stalemate with Spartans keeps unbeaten record going
Elgin City preserved their unbeaten record min League 2 but had to settle for a point against Spartans.
The Edinburgh side, who meet Aberdeen in the Premier Sports Cup this weekend, took the lead with 16 minutes to go but Jack Murray’s swift equaliser did the business for Elgin.
The Black and Whites had slightly the better of the few chances in the first 45 minutes, with Lyall Booth’s 25 yard curler on ten minutes just clearing the bar while Brian Cameron’s powerful volley just before half time forcing keeper Blair Carswell into a fine save, and Ryan Sargent shot the loose ball high over.
Blair Henderson skied a great chance for Spartans from close range on 57 minutes while Mark Gallagher broke at the other end but screwed his shot wide.
A Ryan Sargent header forced a good Carswell save before Spartans took the lead on 74 minutes.
Sub Hamish Ritchie turned and drilled a low effort inside Aidan Glavin’s left hand post.
Within a minute City were level when Jack Murray dived to meet Lyall Booth’s cross and score with a diving header.
It needed a fine save by Kilmarnock loan keeper Glavin to deny Ritchie a second in stoppage time as Spartans chased a winner in vain.
