AN “excellent” Elgin City attacking display ended a run of three home league defeats on Saturday.

Two goals apiece from Brian Cameron and Shane Sutherland helped City defeat Albion Rovers 4-2, see ElginCityTV match highlights above.

City manager Gavin Price said: “I don’t think we’ve created as many chances in a game as we did today.

“Going forward it was excellent.”

After conceding 12 goals in their previous three league games, Price was keen to see his team play on the front foot although they did let in two more sloppy goals in Saturday’s win.

After dominating the first quarter Elgin deservedly scored on 28 minutes, a slick one-two between Cameron and Sutherland working a treat as Cameron went through to find the net.

Within a couple of minutes City’s vulnerability at the back was shown up in Albion’s first meaningful attack as striker Graham Gracie was left all on his own in the six yard box to convert a cross from the left.

Gracie was clean through a few minutes later and Elgin keeper Kyle Gourlay pulled off a crucial save.

City re-established their authority and Rabin Omar was denied by a good stop, but from the resulting corner taken by captain Jon-Paul McGovern, Sutherland headed his team back in front.

The City striker grabbed his second on 56 minutes with a neat solo effort before slotting in Cameron to make it 4-1 on the hour.

Gracie got his second goal for Rovers in the final minute but the home side were comfortable winners.

From playing bottom-of-the-table Albion at home, Elgin’s challenge this weekend is all the more difficult as they visit league leaders Edinburgh City.
