NOT even the brilliance of Elgin City goalkeeper Kyle Gourlay could prevent another defeat on Saturday.

City lost 2-1 at home to leaders Peterhead, their seventh straight defeat in League 2 to continue a disappointing end to their season.

The Black and Whites missed a penalty and made their opponents work for a win which takes them to within three points of clinching the title.

Greg Morrison netted City's first goal in nine games against Blue Toon to cancel out Callum Wilson's early own goal.

But Jack Leitch regained the visitors' lead on 28 minutes and there were no more goals despite a number of opportunities.

Elgin's best opening came shortly before the break when Morrison won a penalty but Ross County loan kid Ross MacIver's kick was saved.

Home keeper Gourlay was far busier, however, making three excellent saves to deny Leitch, Scott Brown and Mick Dunlop.

Dunlop was sent off in the last minute of the game for a second booking but Elgin had little time to take advantage.

Manager Gavin Price remains optimistic that his team will end their losing run soon.

This weekend City are away to Edinburgh City before finishing their season with a home game against bottom team Berwick Rangers.
