The 23-year-old won the Highland League with Fraserburgh in 2022 and has starred for the Buchan club, scoring 21 goals last term to earn his step-up to League 2.

He signed a three-year deal with the Borough Briggs club, joining fellow ex-Highland League star Jack Murray in making the switch to the Black and Whites.

Elgin’s manager Allan Hale lives in Fraserburgh and bossed Sargent when he was in charge at Maud juniors and the attacker was loaned out by Fraserburgh.

When Hale made his move for the player, Sargent said he felt the timing was perfect for him to give higher level football a try.

“I got my goals up in the last couple of seasons and I’m at the right age and the right time to step up into League 2,” he said. “I’m delighted with the move.”

Sargent switched from a winger at Fraserburgh to a central striker and said he is happy playing anywhere across the forward positions.
