TUESDAY was a bad night for Elgin City on all fronts.

While the Black and Whites took a first half Scottish Cup pasting from Championship opponents Ayr United - see YouTube highlights below - they were sliding down the League 2 table as well.

Sitting second when the season restarted on Saturday, a 2-1 home loss to Edinburgh City took them below Stirling Albion into third.

Edinburgh won again on Tuesday night against Albion Rovers, as did Stranraer in their home match against Brechin, and both teams climbed above Elgin as a result.

More Scottish Cup highlights:

The Moray club now find themselves fifth, which will be good enough for a top half place when the league splits after 18 games, but out with the play-off zone at present.

There's still plenty games to play and manager Gavin Price knows the magnitude of this weekend's home league clash against Stirling.

“It’s a massive game," he said. "We’ve got a good record against Stirling but we need to be much better than the last two games.

"Hopefully we’ll be more up to speed on Saturday."
