Hester scored in City's Betfred Cup win over Stirling Albion on Saturday, but was sent off minutes after netting the opener in a 2-0 win.

Manager Gavin Price felt Hester's second yellow card for a high boot was harsh but said his first half booking for dissent put him on a tightrope.

Fortunately for Elgin, the red card did not affect their performance as the ten men stepped up to the mark and scored a second goal through Russell Dingwall's penalty to seal victory.

City will face a tough task at League 1 Montrose tonight on the artificial pitch at Links Park.

The Gable Endies hosted Premiership Ross County in their opening group stage match last Tuesday, and came back from 3-0 down to forced a penalty shoot-out, which they lost.

On Saturday they made the short trip to Championship neighbours Arbroath and lost 3-1.

Elgin could go top of their section if they win at Montrose and Ross County defeat Arbroath in the other match.
