Manager Gavin Price wasn't disappointed by his team's performance but said mistakes led to a bad result in City's bid to reach the play-offs.

The defeat means Elgin need to avoid defeat at home to Albion Rovers this weekend to seal their place in the top half of the division split - a game Price is already labelling as "massive".

"We started the game well, it was quite an even first half and I thought we were looking good in the game," he said. "But it was just errors that cost us again.

"Losing the first goal is really affecting us. We played well in stages of the game but obviously in pressing for an equaliser we left spaces at the back for the second goal.

"I wouldn’t say I was disappointed with the performance but I was really disappointed with the result.

"But there was enough there to see that we are 100 per cent still fighting for every inch so that is not an issue.

"We were let down by two mistakes from two players who have been really key for us this season, and that happens.

"We just have to regroup and make sure we don’t lose our focus or lose any confidence because we are still a good team."

Those mistakes came from captain Euan Spark and fellow stopper Matthew Cooper, two of Elgin's top performers this term who have been ever present in starting appearances throughout the season.

Elgin started well with Tony Dingwall forcing an early save and Archie Macphee's free kick bringing the best out of the Stenny keeper.

Neither side could make a scoring breakthrough in the first half but it was the home side who struck first just a minute after the break.

Spark tried to cut out a low cross from the left but failed to make sufficient contact and Tommy Muir was on hand to prod it home.

Top scorer Kane Hester missed a great chance to level from close range, and City were stung inthe closing minutes as they committed men forward in pursuit of an equaliser.

This time Cooper allowed sub Botti Biabi to get in front of him and steer Ryan Blair's right wing centre past keeper Tom McHale.

Stranraer closed the gap on Elgin in fourth spot to just three points with a 1-0 win at Stranraer.
