ELGIN City's first defeat in five games was not a great cause for concern for manager Gavin Price.
City lost out to hosts Cowdenbeath, whose 19th minute strike by Kris Renton eased their own relegation worries (see Blue Brazil TV highlights below).
Price told the club's website his team will need to start games better to help them reach the points target he has set them to reach the play-offs.
The defeat saw Elgin slip from second to fourth place, behind Edinburgh and Stirling who both won on Saturday.
However, the Black and Whites can guarantee their place in the top half after the 18-game split if they avoid defeat at Stenhousemuir on Tuesday night.
City had won their previous three league matches but started poorly at Central Park and conceded a sloppy goal.
Centre back Stephen Bronsky tried to head the ball back to keeper Tom McHale but home striker Renton intercepted to nod the ball into the vacant goal.
McHale again made some good saves to prevent the home side from increasing their lead, while Elgin chances were few and far between.
"It was a great opportunity to get another three points closer to the target I think we will need," said Price.
"It was one of those days it didn't happen for us.
"We are all in this together and we will fix it if we get a dunt like we got today."
After the trip to Stenhousemuir tomorrow, City host Albion Rovers on Saturday then take on leaders Queen's Park at the Falkirk Stadium next Tuesday to complete their pre-split fixtures.
