The Scots pair saw off Japanese rivals Seigo Asada and Yuki Yamada 5-3 in Friday's first round, played in doubles format.

In round two, Henderson and Thornton drew the Welsh pair of Gerwyn Price and Jonny Clayton, who were seeded two and regarded as one of the pre-tournament favourites.

At this stage, matches revert to singles contests and Henderson was up against on-form Price, who recently won the World Grand Prix as well as back-to-back Grand Slam titles.

The controversial Welshman beat 'Hendo' in last year's PDC World Championships at Alexandra Palace and raced into a 3-0 lead in Austria in the best-of-seven legs match.

Henderson hit back to win the next two but Price secured victory against the darts with an overall 4-2 success.

However, Henderson's team-mate Thornton defeated Clayton by the same scoreline to take the match into a doubles tiebreak, which Wales duly won 4-0.

Price and Clayton then took out Australia in the quarter-finals and saw off Germany, who ousted neighbours the Netherlands who included world number one Michael van Gerwen in their pairing.

In the final Wales went on to whitewash top seeds England, who were represented by former world champ Rob Cross and Michael Smith, who earlier this year did an exhibition at Elgin's Ex-Serviceman's Club.
