Borough Briggs drama as Elgin City keeper Aidan Glavin’s six penalty saves help defeat Clyde in Scottish Gas Scottish Cup shoot-out

One young man grabbed all the headlines from Elgin City’s nerve-shredding Scottish Cup win over Clyde on Saturday.

On-loan Kilmarnock keeper Aidan Glavin made a name for himself by saving six spot kicks, including five in a marathon penalty shoot-out which Elgin eventually won 8-7.

The Scottish Gas Scottish Cup YouTube highlights above show Clyde’s first half goal scored by Jordan Allan and Jack Murray’s 88th minute leveller for City to force extra time and penalties.

Glavin saved a Logan Dunachie penalty in the second half of extra time, then repelled five of Clyde’s 12 kicks in the incredible shoot-out.

Russell Dingwall, who missed Elgin’s first penalty in the showdown, ended up having to take a second spot kick and scored what proved to be the winner for the Black and Whites.

The win earned a home tie against League 1 side Kelty Hearts, the third time the sides will meet in cup competitions this season.
