Aberdeen manager Jimmy Thelin aims to end Pittodrie side’s 12-game winless run at Elgin City in Scottish Cup

The pressure is well-and-truly on Aberdeen to end their horror run of results at Borough Briggs on Saturday.

Manager Jimmy Thelin said after Wednesday’s 3-0 Premiership defeat at Rangers that the Dons “have to win” against Elgin City to end their 12-game winless streak.

After starting this season with 13 consecutive victories - only a 2-2 draw at champions Celtic stopped them making it 16 straight wins - Aberdeen’s results have taken a turn for the worse.

Since beating Dundee 4-1 on November 9, the Pittodrie outfit have lost eight times and drawn four with not one win on the board in all competitions.

“First of all, we have to go through in the cup, we have to win on Saturday,” Thelin said on the club’s website.

“That’s an important thing, then we have one week to the next league game, and it will give us some time to prepare for that game and get all the new players into the team.

“We have to give everything we can now on the cup game and get through that.”

Thelin handed a debut on Wednesday to two of his four January signings, with Dane Alexander Jensen impressing in midfield and Tottenham loan defender Alfie Dorrington coming on in the Ibrox loss.

Both players could come into contention for a first start in the fourth round tie at Elgin.

“As well as finding the way out of this run, we have to stay focused on the long-term and believe in what we are doing,” Thelin added.

“We have some challenges right now, we have to do better, because that’s where we are, we don’t get the results.

“But I still feel and believe that we can, quite soon, find a way out of this and be a much more stable team.”
