DEVERONVALE pulled off the surprise result of the Highland League Cup weekend.
Striker Robert Scott’s double earned a fine 2-1 win at Fraserburgh for the Banff side.
Scott gave Vale a half time lead before Graham Johnston scored a 70 minute free kick just seconds after coming off the home bench to level the scores.
A second Scott goal just two minutes from time proved to be the winner, and earned the visitors a quarter-final tie at Formartine, who came back from two down to beat Inverurie 5-2.
Buckie Thistle are also in the last eight after assistant boss Lewis MacKinnon’s double earned a 2-0 win in the Moray derby at Rothes.
Jags could also afford the luxury of a missed Andy MacAskill penalty, and now host Brora who won 5-2 at Keith.
It wasn’t all plain sailing for the Sutherland side at Kynoch Park as Keith scored first through Brad Manson, who also made it 2-2 after Brora netted either side of the break.
Brora came good in the final half hour with player boss Steven MacKay netting his 300 Highland League goal to help them through.
Forres Mechanics came from behind to win 5-2 at Strathspey Thistle, thanks to braces by Liam Taylor and Robbie Duncanson.
The Grantown men netted first before Taylor, then a brilliant Duncanson free kick forced the Cans ahead until a second home goal made it 2-2 at the break.
Strathspey had a player sent off and in the final fifteen minutes Taylor and Duncanson gave the Cans a cushion, with Ross MacPherson’s first of the season sealing Mechanics’ quarter-final place.
They will now visit Wick Academy who won 3-0 at Fort William.
Lossiemouth went down 4-0 at home to Huntly, whose next opponents are Cove Rangers after the Aberdonians thrashed Turriff 8-0.
