Elgin City women’s football team warm up for Scottish Gas Scottish Cup clash with Dunipace Ladies with SWFL North victory at Westdyke Thistle Ladies

Elgin City’s women’s football team made it two wins out of two in the SWFL North division on Sunday.

Two goals and two assists from 16-year-old Lily Morrison, daughter of team manager Mike, helped City to a 5-1 victory over Westdyke Thistle Ladies in Westhill.

It was good preparation for Elgin’s big match this Sunday when they welcome Dunipace Ladies to Borough Briggs in the second round of the Scottish Gas Scottish Cup.

The Black and Whites kicked off their league campaign with an 11-2 win against Buchan Ladies United, and kept up their good start by defeating their Aberdeen hosts.

Morrison struck after just three minutes and although Westdyke levelled soon after, Lauren Doherty netted to edge City back in front at the break.

Carly Sewell got in on the scoring act on 53 minutes and within a minute it was 4-1 when Morrison scored her second.

Sewell also doubled her personal scoring tally with a header in the final minute to wrap up the victory.

It will be full focus on the cup this weekend, before Elgin return to league action on November 10 when they are scheduled to host leaders Huntly, who have started with three wins out of three.
