The win and Spartans’ defeat at Bonnyrigg Rose means City are guaranteed a top four slot.

One of the best strikes seen at Borough Briggs for many a year helped the Black and Whites get the result they craved.

Dajon Golding produced a breath-taking solo effort which started midway inside his own half to net Elgin’s second goal.

Russell Dingwall had bulleted home a header to open the scoring on 34 minutes from a Jack MacIver corner.

Golding’s amazing effort followed seven minutes later and Mark Gallagher fired home the clincher with seven minutes to go.

It means Elgin will be involved in a play-off semi-final over two legs on May 6 and 10.

They could still finish third as they trail Edinburgh City by just a point, with a final regulation fixture away to East Fife next Saturday.
