DUFFTOWN Highland Games on Saturday was the biggest and best yet, with visitors from around the globe turning up for the 127th edition of the annual event.
294 pipers piped and 102 runners ran at the event which was attended by 5,800 people, including 75 members of the Innes Clan. Last year’s attendance was 5,000.
Chieftain was Alex Grant, who marched down the street with his daughters.
Chairwoman Linda Brown was delighted with the day, and the turnout.
She said: “With the weather overnight being a bit dodgy, we weren’t sure. But it was perfect conditions and so many people turned up so that was great.
On the increase in crowd numbers, Mrs Brown said it was difficult to pinpoint the reasons – other than the weather, with it being sunny this year and rainy last.
She added: “We don’t know what increased the numbers but it seems to get bigger and better every year.
“We had a few overseas guests – Brazilians, Mexicans, Australians, Americans and South Africans. It’s frightening for a little town like Dufftown to be able to attract so many people.”
