14 new cases of coronavirus confirmed in Moray in the last week

FOURTEEN new cases of coronavirus have been confirmed in Moray in the last seven days, taking the area's total to 295 since the outbreak began.

This represents an increase on the nine cases confirmed in last Wednesday's update, but remains down on the 17 confirmed two weeks ago and the 29 confirmed three weeks ago.

Since December 1, 453 negative tests have been returned by Moray residents. That's an increase on the 365 that were returned in the week prior.

The number of deaths related to the virus in Moray has remained at 22. Of those who have died, 14 have tested positive for covid-19 and died within 28 days and eight have had covid-19 mentioned on their death certificate.

NHS Grampian – which includes Moray, Aberdeenshire and Aberdeen City – has now confirmed 5330 cases of coronavirus since the outbreak began. That's an increase of 466 on the 4864 reported last week.

Moray neighbourhood update

Of the currently active cases in Moray, six are centered around the Findhorn, Kinloss and Pluscarden Valley area.

Elsewhere, there are a number of cases in Elgin, with Buckie and Lossiemouth also having a case.

The neighbourhood areas of North Speyside; Heldon West, Fogwatt to Inchberry and Cullen, Portknockie, Findochty, Drybridge and Berryhillock also have an active case.

Scotland-wide update

Today's daily update shows 897 people in Scotland have tested positive for coronavirus overnight, with 39 deaths of people who tested positive for the virus confirmed.

During the week ending December 9, 45,310 people were newly-tested with 5610 testing positive for the first time. This means 4.8 per cent of tests returned a positive result.

Since the outbreak began, a total of 1,239,579 covid-19 tests have been taken in Scotland, with 102,372 positive and 1,137,207 negative.

In the week ending December 6, 232 deaths were recorded where covid-19 was mentioned on the death certificate. That takes the total number of deaths to 5868 across Scotland since the outbreak began.

Of those, 3989 tested positive and died within 28 days.

A total of 50 people are in intensive care in relation to covid-19, with 972 in hospital. That's a steep rise on the 441 who were confirmed as being in hospital last Wednesday.

In total, 7997 patients who have tested positive for covid-19 have been released from hospital since March 5.
