Police Scotland say they have charged 16 drivers in Elgin following a series of operations over the past month.

The north east road policing unit carried out what they call "high-visibility operations" between Friday, December 7 and Saturday, January 8.

The motorists have been charged with various traffic offences including driving without a licence, without insurance and no MOT.

Several have also been charged due to their vehicles having illegal modified exhausts

PC Callum Hogg said: "It is disappointing to find motorists disregarding the law.

"The majority in the North East drive legally, with their vehicles roadworthy and in receipt of the appropriate documentation.

"However, there is still a small minority who do not abide by these laws and are using their vehicles in an inappropriate manner or allowing them to fall into an unacceptable condition.

"We will continue to work with the local community over the coming weeks and months to ensure that everyone takes responsibility for their own actions and regularly checks their vehicles throughout the winter season."
