A £190,000 extension to a Moray palliative care unit has been officially opened.
Dr Tim Morgan, who regularly visits patients at The Oaks Palliative Care Day Unit in Elgin, was accompanied by daughter Catriona as he cut the ribbon in front of a large number of patients and staff.
The new part of the building – funded by Macmillan Cancer Support, NHS Grampian and The Friends of The Oaks – houses a larger lounge and dining area. Not only will that mean a more comfortable environment for patients who use wheelchairs or walking aids, according to Dr Morgan, but it will also provide more space for group activities.
Based in Aberdeen, Dr Morgan provides a weekly care clinic at The Oaks.
He said: "It is always a pleasure for me to come up to Elgin each week and see patients within an environment which both NHS Grampian and the people of Moray can be justifiably proud.
"The building itself has been cared for extremely well and you would never know that it is eight years old. The new extension enhances what is already an excellent facility. Space within the lounge and dining area was always tight and the new extension is a much-needed addition."
