A POLICE operation conducted in Moray over the weekend resulted in 20 motorists being charged for using their mobile phones while driving.
Officers from North East Road Policing were carrying out patrols across Moray as part of Operation Tramline - a road policing initiative to combat careless driving.
All 20 drivers who were detected using their mobile phones were charged and received six penalty points as well as a £200 fine.
PC Darren Ross from the Elgin Road Policing Team said: "Using your mobile phone whilst driving, even if on handsfree, is extremely distracting and can have disastrous consequences that can have a lasting impact.
"If you need to use your phone, find a suitable and safe place to stop."
