A new grant scheme is set to try revive the amount of shops in the high streets and town centres of Moray.

The Town Centre Capital Grant Scheme launched by Moray Council has been given £268,000 of funding.

The aim is to support existing businesses and give new ones the opportunity to inhabit currently vacant properties in Elgin, Aberlour, Keith, Dufftown, Buckie, Forres and Lossiemouth.

Business and property owners are able to apply for grants of up to 50% of the eligible costs, with a maximum of £50,000 to revitalise these spaces.

Marc Macrae, Moray Council’s economic development committee chairman, states this new scheme will allow the council to better provide for the needs of businesses across Moray.

Councillor Macrae (Fochabers/Lhanbryde, Conservative) said: "Our town centre businesses continue to face a challenging environment.

"The flexibility of the funding will allow us to target our support to those who need it most as we focus our efforts on improving our town centres."

The deadline for applications will be on January 8 2024.
