36 cases of coronavirus confirmed in Moray in the last seven days

THIRTY-SIX cases of coronavirus have been confirmed in Moray within the last week, taking the area's total since the outbreak began to 1769.

This represents a significant decrease on the 95 cases confirmed last week.

With no new deaths recorded, the number of people to have died due to Covid-19 in Moray remains 40.

Of those 40, 30 have tested positive for Covid-19 and passed away within 28 days, while 10 had the virus mentioned on their death certificate.

Moray's rate of Covid-19 per head of population is down to 40 from 100, with the area now the sixth worst affected in Scotland.

A total 1010 negative Covid-19 tests have been confirmed since May 11 – down on the 1303 negative tests confirmed in last week's update.

NHS Grampian – which includes Moray, Aberdeenshire and Aberdeen City – has now confirmed 15,350 cases of coronavirus since the outbreak began.

That's an increase of 64 on the 15,286 reported last week, meaning Moray is still account for about half of the health board's cases.

Six 'neighbourhood areas' in Moray confirmed at least three positive cases of Covid-19 between May 10 and May 16.

Elgin is the worst hit town in the area, with fewer than three cases confirmed in both Buckie and Forres.

At least 13 cases were confirmed in Elgin (seven in Elgin Cathedral, Ashgrove to Pinefield, six in New Elgin West), with four in Keith and Fife Keith and three in Lossiemouth West.

The other two areas with cases are North Speyside (five) and Burghead, Roseisle and Laich (four).

Scotland-wide update

Overnight, 394 cases of Covid-19 and no deaths were recorded throughout Scotland.

During the week ending May 19, 28,105 people were newly-tested for Covid-19 with 2013 testing positive for the first time. This is compared to the 1694 who tested positive last week from 25,710 tests.

Since the outbreak began, 1,983,390 people in Scotland have been tested at least once, with 230,436 positive and 1,752,954 negative.

During the week ending May 16, six deaths were registered where Covid-19 was mentioned on the death certificate.

Scotland's death toll is 10,109. A total of 7664 people have died after testing positive for Covid-19.

A total of four people are in intensive care in relation to Covid-19, with 78 patients in hospital.

In total, 15,661 patients who have tested positive for Covid-19 have been released from hospital since March 5, 2020.
