51-year-old arrested over five thefts from Lossiemouth vehicles in Moray, as Police Scotland issue car safety plea

AFTER an overnight spree of thefts from vehicles in Lossiemouth last weekend, police have arrested and charged a 51-year old man.

The man's arrest followed a search of an address on Inchbroom Avenue yesterday (September 19), police confirmed, where they found stolen items.

Five vehicles were involved in the thefts which happened between Friday, September 15 and Saturday, September 16.

Police confirmed that the charged man has been released on an undertaking, and will appear make a court appearance at a later date.

In the wake of the incident, local police have urged the Moray public to make sure there cars are kept safe.

The most important way to prevent incidents, said north east crime reduction officer Constable Richard Russell, is to make sure cars stay locked.

“It sounds simple but always remember to lock your car," he said.

"This is the simplest way to keep your car safe.

"Get into the habit of locking the car every time you leave it and ensure your windows are closed.

“Never leave items on show, as this could be an invitation to opportunistic thieves – mobile phones, electronic equipment, coins, tools, bags and any other valuables should be removed from the vehicle or placed in the boot.”
