Collision prompts closure of A96 in both directions between Inverness and Forres

THE A96 between Inverness and Forres has been closed in both directions following a road traffic accident, with heavy traffic in the area.

Shortly after 11am Traffic Scotland announced a road closure near Newton of Petty, between Nairn and Inverness.

Motorists are being advised to seek alternative routes when travelling and are advised of likely delays on their journey.

A Traffic Scotland spokesperson said: "The A96 Newton of Petty is closed in both directions due to a road traffic incident.

"Road users should seek an alternative route at this time and expect longer than normal journey times."

Emergency services are currently on the scene.
