The A96 remains closed near Keith after a roadwork site flooded during torrential rain, bringing work to a halt.

Flooding of the roadworks means that the site will need to dry out before work can restart.
Flooding of the roadworks means that the site will need to dry out before work can restart.

Resurfacing on the A96 to the north of Keith, between Mulben Junction and Newton of Forgie took place over the weekend with a full road closure and further overnight works were planned this week.

But in a statement from contractors Amey this morning they said: “Unfortunately, due to torrential downpours over the weekend, the foundation we have been installing for the A96 has become too saturated to allow us to lay asphalt on. As a result we are not able to re-open the A96 at this location until such time as we can dry the site out and install a suitable foundation. The full road closure, with diversion, will remain in place 24hrs until we can reinstate the carriageway. We are currently reviewing the forecast and works required and will update with a proposed programme to re-open the road as soon as possible.”
