Work is due to begin on Friday at 7.30pm to improve the surface on a stretch of road between Kintore and Inverurie.

This is set to be completed by 6.30pm on Monday.

Motorists heading towards Moray will be directed off the A96 at the Broomhill roundabout.

They will then be directed along the B987 towards Kintore before veering off towards Kemnay on the B994.

Turning onto the B993, they will head back towards the A96, rejoining the main road at the Port Elphinstone roundabout.

The slip roads onto the A96 at Tavelty and Kintore on-slips will also be closed over the course of the weekend.

Signs will be in place to guide motorists.

Local access will be maintained to Tavelty and Clovenstone.

Ian Stewart from BEAR Scotland said: "This £425,000 investment from Transport Scotland will greatly improve and strengthen this section of the A96, as well as create a smoother and safer journey for motorists.

"The road closure is essential for ensuring the safety of road workers and motorists.

""However, we have planned for operations to take place consecutively where possible over one weekend to complete the scheme as quickly and as safely as we can to minimise disruption.

“We thank motorists for their patience in advance while our teams carry out these essential improvements on the A96. "
