THE University of Aberdeen aims to give more help to struggling students with new plan.

The Student Mental Health Agreement (SMHA) was created in collaboration with the Aberdeen University Students’ Association and outlines the university's goals for developing better wellbeing for all.

The agreement outlines plans for the next two years to raise awareness of the current mental health support available, alongside promoting and facilitating student self-care and ensuring that support services are available and accessible to all.

The University has also committed to continued training for staff to allow them to further assist stressed students.

The agreement will be delivered by an annual action plan which features a series of activities including events promoting support services, social media content to raise awareness and stop the stigma of mental illness, and training and support for staff. The plan will be reviewed and developed regularly.

Ivana Drdáková, Vice President for Welfare at AUSA, said: “The agreed priorities in the SMHA have been informed by student consultation and support both AUSA and UOA strategies. By working together, we will enhance the inclusive environment and positive culture at UOA, supporting students to maintain positive mental health; manage problems and support the prevention of mental ill health.”
