Aberlour Senior Citizens Association celebrated its 70th anniversary with cream teas, a sing-a-long and a bit of dancing.

Nearly 70 folk were at the village's Fleming Hall last week to mark the happy occasion.

Margaret Stronach, the association's president, started off the get-together by giving a short speech.

This highlighted how the group had originally formed back in September 1953 as the Aberlour Old Age Pensioners Association, before changing to its present name in 1992.

Joyce Gordon, the group's longest-standing member, then cut not one, but two specially-made cakes.

The first had been created by professional caterer Sandy Henderon, while the second was donated by Helen Stuart and Alister Younie.

Next it was the turn of clarinettist John Cockburn, accordionist Donald Grassie and guitarist Steve Bateman.

They started off the entertainment by playing 'The Song from Moulin Rogue', which was top of the hit parade exactly 70 years ago.

From the stage John joked: "If the music is too loud or too quiet just adjust your hearing aids appropriately."

Speaking after the event, Bill Taylor, the association's secretary, said: "Everybody had a really fine time.

"It does everyone the world of good to catch up with friends.

"That's what the association is all about – friendship."

The anniversary celebration was paid for by a grant from the Co-op Community Find.

Aberlour Senior Citizens Association meets every second Wednesday of the month, from 2pm-4pm, at the Fleming Hall.

All welcome to either come along on the day or to call Bill on 01340 871103.

As well as its monthly meets the association also organises a summer outing and a Christmas lunch.

Annual membership is a very reasonable £5.
