THE speed limit on the A96 through Aves might be cut at certain times of the day to 20mph.

Transport Scotland is reviewing whether the current 40mph limit should be halved while pupils are going into or leaving the primary school.

Moray MP Douglas Ross has welcomed the potential development, stating that he asked Transport Scotland to look at the matter.

.

Mr Ross said: “Concerns about traffic and speeding vehicles is something that has been raised on many occasions by people living in the village, so I’m encouraged that following my letter to them, Transport Scotland are taking the matter seriously.

“They have asked BEAR to look into the feasibility of installing a part-time 20 mph limit near the primary school, as well as assessing whether the current pedestrian facilities are adequate.

“While this will not alleviate all of the concerns that have been raised with me, it is a step in the right direction.

"I hope BEAR Scotland will look into this as soon as possible as there is a real risk someone could be hurt if nothing is done.

"Parents and residents are getting increasingly concerned so hopefully this response will reassure them the matter is being considered. It is something I will continue to highlight until pupils and residents feel safe crossing this stretch of the A96.”
