ASDA in Elgin has secured a £500 health and hygiene grant for residents at Anderson's Care Home.
The grant, introduced by the Asda Foundation this year in response to the coronavirus pandemic, aims to help those in care homes and homeless shelters gain access to hygiene products – which were hard to come by in shops at the start of lockdown.
Residents at Anderson's Care Home have already begun spending the money on the likes of deodorants, soap and shampoo.
Kaye Macleod, community champion at Asda, said: "The idea was to make it more comfortable for the residents with family members not getting in to care homes.
"It's a way the Asda Foundation can support the community. Usually we would have had grants supporting football clubs or helping to support isolation but this year we have new grants such as this one.
"We have supported Anderson's Care Home with their VE Day celebrations so it's nice to support them further."
Anderson's Care Home manager Kathy McGrath-Gunn MBE, said: "The whole point of the grant was to benefit our residents and helps them feel that bit better.
"We have already started spending the money and I've put through my first orders.
"It has been good news for residents."
Hairdressers have been allowed back into care homes for the last six weeks, which has also provided a much-needed boost for residents, Mrs McGrath-Gunn added.
"Prior to that staff were doing the residents' hair," she explained. "It all helps and gives our residents that feel-good factor."
