A man convicted of attempting to murder a biker on the A98 road near Cullen has launched an appeal.

Ian Ewing was jailed for seven years in April for his part in the attack which took place back on September 8, 2018.

The 44-year-old, who comes from Aberdeen, was videoed along with a group of accomplices launching a violent attack on four bikers.

Ewing drove a car at one of the four, knocking him off his vehicle.

He and another three men, who have yet to be identified, then got out of the car and physically attacked the four riders with implements including a baseball bat and a claw hammer.

As well as the attempted murder charge, Ewing was also found guilty by a jury at the High Court in Edinburgh on another charge of assaulting a second biker to his severe injury and to the danger of his life.

The Court of Criminal Appeal has confirmed that Ewing’s lawyers have given notification of his intention to appeal, though no indication has yet been given as to whether its against the conviction or the length of sentence.
