A box of toys from Dr Gray's Hospital in Elgin - bound for the Moray and Grampian Christmas Toy and Food Appeal - were taken by someone purporting to be from Moray Firth Radio, which is also running a fantastic festive appeal and it has confirmed no-one representing them collected any toys from the hospital.

Trish Bury, one of the nurses coordinating the collection of toys at the hospital, said: "The person said they were from MFR, they were not! Please return these toys which are for children in Moray's Christmas."

Chris Saunderson, joint content editor of The Northern Scot, which runs the appeal in partnership with Moray Council and the St Giles Shopping Centre, with partners Dr Gray's, Tesco Elgin, Asda Elgin, Elgin BID and Associated Seafoods, said: "I am totally shocked that someone could be so callous as to do something like this. If this person has a conscience at all they will return these toys to the hospital immediately."

Staff and visitors to the hospital have already donated generously to the appeal since it was launched at the start of November and all toys previously donated are with the council, ready for distribution next week.

The last day for donations of toys, gifts and non-perishable food items is Friday, December 17. The Northern Scot is hosting a thank you and donation event in the St Giles Centre from 10am to 2pm on Friday when people can hand in donations and enjoy a glass of mulled wine, mince pie and chocolates.
