Michelle Cumming says: "The Aurora made a surprise show just after midnight.

"I could see it from the garden so grabbed my stuff, jacket over jammies, and bolted down the beach.

"Glad I did!

"She started to dim by 1am but I managed to capture a good show of rays.

"Also interestingly, three distinct bands of colour: green, pink and a top layer of purple.

"First time I've seen the purple."
