AN ACTING head teacher at a Buckie primary school has been recognised for going above and beyond during the coronavirus pandemic.

Chloe Cormack, acting head at St Peter's Primary, won the Primary Teacher Award at Thursday's Moray and Banffshire Heroes Awards.

Ms Cormack was nominated for the award after going the extra mile, knocking on pupils' doors to make sure they had all they needed during lockdown.

After lockdown, when schools returned, she ensured that all pupils were learning in as safe as environment as possible – with all parents signposted to available help if needed.

Despite this, Chloe was surprised to even be nominated for an award.

"It was a complete shock to get the phone call about the nomination and an even bigger shock to win but I'm delighted and flattered," she said.

"I'm part of a very strong team at St Peter's so a special mention has to go to all teachers at the school.

"For me it was just part of the job. I didn't recognise it being anything special.

"I've been at the school since 2014 and grew up in Buckie, so I'm passionate about the school community."
