Bank of Scotland scrapping Moray mobile service

The Bank of Scotland has announced it is set to scrap its mobile branch services in communities across Aberdeenshire and Moray.

After May it will stop providing its fortnightly mobile service to towns and villages on its Elgin route.

The communities affected will be Portsoy, Cullen, Keith, Fochabers, Burghead, Lossiemouth and Aberlour.

The bank will also stop going to towns and villages on its Inverurie route.

The communities affected will be Turriff, New Pitsligo, Insch, Alford, Huntly, Portlethen, Aboyne, Kingswells and Westhill.

A spokesperson said that it was scrapping the mobile service following an "in-depth review".

They added: "We’ve been looking at how customers are using our mobile branches. Many are using them less and choosing other ways to bank instead.

"Because of this we’ve made the decision to end this service. This includes all the stops on this route.

"We’re still here to support you and there’s a number of ways you can do your everyday banking with us – online, on your mobile, over the phone or at a post office. You can also use a branch."

Moray's MP described the move as a "bitter blow".

He added: "I am extremely disappointed that the Bank of Scotland have decided to remove mobile banking services from Keith and Lossiemouth, as well as many smaller communities in Moray by the end of May next year.

"These services are vital for these communities who have already suffered from branch closures in the towns. Elderly and vulnerable people, in particular, continue to want access to banking services in their local area as they simply don’t use online banking.

"Connectivity also remains a major issue for many people living in rural and remote parts of Moray.

"That decision sums up how major banks continue to be so out-of-touch with the needs of customers."

"I have sought an urgent meeting with the Bank of Scotland to relay local concerns."
