Buckie High students cook up cancer charity cash

A GROUP of Buckie Community High School (BCHS) students have been cooking up some cash for a cancer charity.
Six S5-6 girls from the Senior Leadership Group banded together recently to hold a bake sale which went on to net a grand total of £388.79 for Macmillan Cancer Support.
Turning fancy pieces into charity cash were Abbie Phimister, Eden Wojcik, Makenna Gauld, Layla Calder, Natasha Gillies and Phoebe Goodall.
Abbie said: "As part of our course we have to do activities for charity or voluntary work.
"Macmillan is a charity that's meaningful for some of our families so we chose to support them. We decided to do a bake sale rather than a coffee morning as it was easier to do in school.
"It was held in the social area which was away of trying to get as many people as possible involved. We had donations of bakes from teachers and staff plus what we did ourselves.
"The sale was held in a break and although we only had 15 minutes we pretty much sold out of everything. What was left we donated to local care homes.
"It was great to be able to give something back to the community."
The girls, who are all friends, said that in addition to helping out a good cause the venture had helped them hone useful skills for the future, including planning and taking responsibility for doing things.
Abbie added: "We're planning on doing this again.
"Hopefully we'll make it an annual event and choose a different charity."
