Beauty of Moray gets first performance as part of Remembering Together Moray

THE Beauty of Moray will be played for the first time at a community concert.
That is a new traditional tune commissioned by the Remembering Together Moray project.
Musicians Duncan Chisholm and Hamish Napier have composed and will perform the tune alongside local musicians at a free community concert in Fochabers Public Institute on Friday, September 22.
Remembering Together Moray saw a series of pop-up soundwalks staged at various locations across Moray over three weekends, allowing people to listen to a 20-minute audio piece using words, music, sound and poetry to reflect on the Covid pandemic.
Lead artists were Graeme Roger (Wildbird) and Caroline Inckle (Studio Constella), supported by Findhorn Bay Arts.
Duncan Chisholm said: Myself and Hamish are very excited to be a part of this
wonderful project. Remembering Together is about reflection and connection with the people of Moray through art.
"To have been given the opportunity to create a piece of music for Moray was an incredible honour, and we are very much looking forward to teaching and sharing our music in Moray.”
The concert is being organised with support from local musician and music teacher Mhairi Marwick of Arc Sessions and is being shared widely with music students across Moray in the run-up to the concert to enable community contribution on the day.
Duncan and Hamish will also be running a compositional workshop in the afternoon
on September 22 at Fochabers Public Institute from 3.30-5.00pm where they will share
practical insights into the writing process. This workshop is being offered to young
musicians through schools and local music teachers.
Musicians who have learned The Beauty of Moray are invited to a ‘big play through’
of the tune with Duncan and Hamish at Fochabers Public Institute from 5.00-5.30pm on the same day.
Anyone who wishes to attend the concert, including community musicians, must book a free ticket at Eventbrite. Tickets will be allocated on a first-come, first-served basis, and we expect tickets to go fast!
