PEOPLE across the north east have been urged to raise money for those with sensory impairments by hosting fundraising picnics in line with coronavirus guidelines.

The Big NESS Picnic event will see Covid-compliant picnics take place throughout September to generate cash for North East Sensory Services (NESS).

The events will help the charity to support deaf and blind people in Moray, Aberdeen, Aberdeenshire, Dundee and Angus.

The picnics will bring families and friends together outdoors provided participants adhere to coronavirus rules on gatherings of a maximum of six from two households, excluding children under 12 .

Anyone wishing to take part can donate £10 on the charity’s fundraising page.

The page can be accessed here .

Lynn Batham, community fundraising co-ordinator with NESS, said: “It’s not been easy for people to get together during lockdown, especially those with sensory impairments.

"The Big NESS Picnic involves groups meeting in a safe and secure way while also raising money for a great cause.

“Picnics will have to adjust to the current guidelines, but we still encourage people to enjoy coming together outdoors with friends or family.

“People who are deaf and blind should be able to take part in society in the same way as everyone else.

“Money raised from these small picnics will help us provide services and support networks which do exactly that.”
