The pool, located at Ward 3 of the hospital, was shut down due to drainage issues in May this year but following work to address the faults it has now been reopened.

A spokesperson for NHS Grampian said: "We are delighted to say that all the works and testing are complete, and the birthing pool is now available for use at Dr Gray's."

The drainage issues had reportedly been known about since September but had not been resolved. The pool was ultimately closed two months ago when water flooded out into a corridor in the hospital and into the theatre department on the floor below.

Moray MP Douglas Ross branded the lack of action regarding the drainage issues as "completely unacceptable" and added that he was "astonished" that nothing had been done to address the issue prior to the pool's enforced closure.

While the pool's restoration is a boost to services in the area, NHS Grampian has since said that it could take up to a decade to fully restore maternity services at Dr Gray's.
