ARMY bomb disposal experts have destroyed a suspect item found at a recycling centre in Keith on Wednesday.

The Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) unit travelled from Edinburgh to deal with the incident.

An Army spokeswoman said a World War Two demolition kit was found and destroyed at the scene.

Police had cordoned off an area at the site in the town's Balloch Road.

Moray Council reopened the recycling centre on Thursday.

Police Scotland said a device was found at around 12.35pm on Wednesday at the recycling centre.

A police spokesman said emergency services attended and an area was cordoned off as a precaution.

Officers stood guard at the entrance to the centre and skips were sealed off.

The Army spokeswoman added: "A few items of interest have been found at recycling centres recently – but they've all turned out to be random stuff."
