Police have issued an appeal to shop owners following a series of break-ins or attempted break-ins on Elgin High Street over the past three weeks.

Three of the incidents took place at WH Smith.

Firstly, on December 22 a window was broken.

Then, five days later on December 27, a thief entered the premises through the damaged window.

Entry was gained yet again the following night, this time by smashing the glass on the door.

A large number of vapes were stolen during these incidents.

The police have since arrested and charged a suspect for thee offences.

Then, at 6am on Friday, January 12 the glass door of Nickel & Dime was broken.

CCTV footage shows a person loitering in the doorway for a period of time before leaving.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "It is thought this window was broken to test the alarm system and then to return later to carry out theft.

"We are asking all shop owners, particularly in the Elgin area, to ensure their premises are secure and to remain vigilant.

"We will have high visibility patrols in the area in an effort to deter any further incidents."
