A breast screening service will begin work in Aberlour and Keith later on this month.

Women aged between 50 and 70 will be receiving invitations through the post to attend if they are registered with a GP at the Keith Medical Group, the Glenlivet Medical Practice or the Rinnes Medical Group in Aberlour.

A mobile unit is going to be sited in the car park opposite Aberlour Health Centre on Queens Road from Wednesday, March 13, and in the Keith Tesco car park from the following day.

The screenings will continue until approximately April 25.

Sarah Philip, the screening service's manager, said "The aim is to detect breast changes at an early stage when treatment has the best chance of being successful.

"We hope that women invited for the first time will take advantage.

"For those who have been screened previously, it is important to attend to ensure there have been no changes over the past three years.

"The risk of developing breast cancer increases as you get older, so if any woman missed or failed to attend their previous invitation, it is still important to come along for screening this time."

Women aged over-70 will not be sent an invitation, but can make their own appointment by contacting the screening centre on 01224 550570.
