British Red Cross volunteer has flown to disaster zones across the world

A WOMAN who has helped people in distress following natural disasters and other emergencies worldwide will be the guest speaker at a local group.

Liz Tait (65), has been a volunteer with the British Red Cross for 50 years.

She has helped people in Zimbabwe, China, the Carribean, Kenya, Sudan and Afghanistan among the areas she has been deployed to at short notice, as well as Scotland and the UK.

Earlier this year she was deployed to Rhodes to help in the aftermath of devastating wildfires.

Liz was also part of Operation London Bridge and was on shift to support people queuing for the Queen's lying in state last year.

She received a British Empire Medal in King Charles' first honours list in June this year.

Liz, who is head of clinical governance at Dr Gray's Hospital, will talk about her efforts with the British Red Cross at a meeting of the Elgin and District Parkinson's support group on Monday, October 9.

The support group meets on the second Monday of each month in the Free Church on South Street, Elgin at 2pm.

Chairwoman Elsie Watson said new members are always welcome.
