Elgin Sheriff Court was told that witnesses travelling on the A98 towards Cullen called Police after they saw the car – driven by 43-year-old Nicola Mckay – driving erratically along the road at 8.15am on Monday, May 29.

The car had been travelling at 20 miles below the speed limit, and witnesses also saw it swerving over white lines in the road, before nearly colliding with a traffic island.

Police traced vehicle and noted that they could could smell alcohol coming from Mckay's breath and that her eyes appeared glazed.

She was taken to Elgin Police Station for a breath test, where she gave a reading of 122 micrograms per 100 millimetres of breath. The legal limit is 22mcg.

Sheriff David Sutherland disqualified Mckay from driving for 14 months to be reduced to 11 months if she sits a drink drivers rehabilitation course. She was also fined £500.
