A BUCKIE man who brandished a knife at social workers has been sentenced to community service.
Elgin Sheriff Court heard on Thursday (May 18) that Gary Smith (42) had been drinking heavily when two social workers attended his Portgordon flat on April 13 to carry out a welfare check.
However, when the social workers found him brandishing a blue Stanley knife they were forced to leave Smith's home for their safety.
Defence solicitor Matthew O'Neill said that it did appear to be an extreme reaction – after consuming a significant amount of alcohol – to the two workers, who were there to support him.
Sheriff Olga Pasportnikov sentenced Smith to 270 hours of unpaid work to be undertaken over the next nine months.
