TWO Buckie RNLI fundraising volunteers have been honoured for their dedication and long-standing support.

Mandy Rowland and her husband Mick have been presented with a special certificate of thanks from the maritime search and rescue charity's Chief Executive, Mark Dowie.

The couple have been part of the Buckie RNLI fundraising team for over 18 years, distributing and maintaining the collection boxes across Moray, fostering fantastic relationships within the local community and raising in the region of £75,000 in donations during their time as volunteers.

As a result of their tireless support and dedication to fundraising for the RNLI, the couple have been awarded a certificate of thanks by the RNLI, presented under the Excellence in Volunteering Initiative which recognises those who have gone above and beyond in their support of the charity.

Unfortunately Mr Rowland was unable to attend the lifeboat station to receive their special recognition awards from Lifeboat Operations Manager, Anne Scott and full-time Coxswain, David Grant, however his wife Mandy was delighted to be able to accept this on his behalf.

Mrs Scott said "Fundraisers are the beating heart of the RNLI and without volunteers like Mick and Mandy our lifeboat crews would not be able to continue saving lives at sea.

"As a charity we receive no government funding and collection boxes are a hugely important source of income for the RNLI.

"We are extremely grateful to Mick and Mandy for their hard work, and all our supporters who put a donation into our collection boxes."

Mr and Mrs Rowland added: "We are extremely excited and dead chuffed to receive the award, it was a huge surprise.

"They are pride of place on the wall in our hallway."

Buckie RNLI are always keen to hear from people who would be interested in serving either as part of the volunteer lifeboat crew or the shore-based fundraising team. For more information, and to keep up with branch news, follow the station's Facebook page.
