Running until January next year, the £556,000 scheme will see SGN engineers replacing just over 3.5km of old metallic gas main with new polyethylene PE pipe. Most of the work will be carried out by a mains insertion technique whereby the new main is inserted inside the old one, reducing the need to dig lengthy trenches in the road.

Phase 1, starting on Tuesday, March 1, is expected to last for 36 weeks and will commence outside 84 Well Road, continue onto Stripeside and then to Douglas Crescent, Raffan Road, Shearer Avenue and finally to outside 1-14 Archibald Grove.

The next phase is due to get under way on April 19 for three weeks between 7-9 Queen Street.

May 9 will see phase 3 begin between 6-15 Harbour Street for five weeks. This section involves the reinforcement of the network.

Phase 4 is slated for a June 13 kick off working on Seaview Terrace between Land Street and Cathedral Street. This section may involve a possible road closure and the diversion route will be agreed with Moray Council. It is envisaged the work will take four weeks.

An eight-week phase 5 commences on July 11spanning West Church Court to Cluny Terrace and Cuthbert’s Brae.

The Yardie between Bridge Place and Baron Street is the focus of phase 6, running for eight weeks from September 5. This section will require two-way temporary traffic lights to be installed.

For four weeks from October 31 SGN engineers will be in the March Road/Freuchny Road area between Commercial Road to the footpath at March Street. This section may require two-way temporary traffic lights.

Phase 8, the final section in the project, is 12 weeks long and takes in the entire length of Newlands Lane and on a connection point on the High Street. This section may require a possible road closure and no waiting/no parking restrictions to be imposed.

SGN stated that they are writing to residents and other local stakeholders to make them aware of our project and explain the details of the work.
