THE importance of keeping safe around open water has been highlighted as Moray continues to bask in warm weather.
The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service ran a poster competition in the coastal town of Burghead to remind people of the dangers and to promote safe summer activities.
It was won by Summer Allum, whose design reminds people to Be Sure by the Sea Shore.
The 8-year-old was welcomed to Elgin fire station this week to receive her prizes, which were donated by Pinz Bowling, Moray Leisure Centre and Moray Playhouse.
While at the station, Summer got up close with the service's specialised water rescue vehicle and equipment.
Crew manager Douglas McAulay, who hosted Summer on the visit, said her poster was both colourful and informative.
He said the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service wants everyone to have a fun and safe summer.
People are reminded not to swim at unsupervised (un-lifeguarded) sites including lakes, quarries reservoirs and rivers.
Strong currents can rapidly sweep people away, while other dangers include uneven banks and river beds, problems with water quality and the shock of cold water.
The service also advises that people should not swim into deep water which will be much colder and can result in shock.
To stay safe, the service says you should not jump into water from heights or tombstone.
Dangers included the height of the fall or jump, the unpredictable changes in the depth of the water, submerged objects and the shock of cold water.
The service has put together some advice on water safety to help everyone to stay safe this summer.
