Cairngorm Mountain officially confirms end of 2020/21 ski season

Cairngorm Mountain is to partially reopen when Covid rules allow later this month – but there will be no snowsports.

This past winter saw some of the heaviest snow for over a decade.

However the venue was able to host only one weekend of snowsports this season – on December 19 and 20 – before it had to close due to the lockdown.

And, even then, the lack of snow meant there was only very limited skiing and snowboarding on offer.

Susan Smith, chief executive of Cairngorm Mountain (Scotland) Ltd, said: "This has been an incredibly challenging winter for all, and we are thankful to everyone who has supported us during this time.

"While we have seen some unusual spring weather these past few weeks, there remains insufficient snow cover on the lower mountain to permit access for general snowsports."

From April 26 there will be catering facilities providing food and beverages at the venue, while the retail shop will also be open.

Ms Smith added: "The mountain garden will be open and we hope that this will prove popular with families.

"Over the weekends we will also provide tubing for the many local customers who have come to enjoy this product."

Meanwhile, the contractors Balfour Beatty have now begun work again to repair the funicular viaduct.
