THE new programme director of a major collaborative set up to deliver the full restoration of maternity services in Moray has put out a call for specialists.

Jane Gill, who was recently appointed programme director of the NHS Grampian and NHS Highland Maternity Collaborative, says there are opportunities to work flexibly as part of the ongoing delivery of the Moray Maternity Service Plan.

The maternity services at Dr Gray's Hospital were downgraded in 2018 due to staffing concerns.

Consequently, the majority of Moray babies have been delivered in Aberdeen.

However, the Scottish Government committed up to £6.6 million earlier this year for the full restoration of services in the region by 2026.

Restoring the services at Dr Gray's and strengthening the team at Raigmore Hospital means the ongoing recruitment of 100 additional staff.

And around a quarter of them will have to be highly specialised medics.

Ms Gill said: “We’re on the cusp of a far-reaching lifestyle recruitment campaign and would like to attract medical colleagues to work as part of our Maternity Collaborative in Elgin and Inverness.

"Right now, I’m asking for qualified obstetricians, anaesthetists and paediatricians to get in touch and chat with me about what might attract you to our dynamic network.

“Are you looking for a part-time position? Would you be keen to work in the UK for only part of the year? Are there particular professional development opportunities you might be interested in across a network of hospitals? Is there a piece of research you feel could be supported across our rural and urban areas?

"I’m keen to remind prospective candidates it’s not just a job we’re offering but an opportunity to be part of a really special community in a beautiful part of Scotland.

"It’s not just work but all the things you can do alongside work here too."

Those interested in applying are advised to email gram.maternitycollaborative@nhs.scot.
