POPPYSCOTLAND is calling for buildings and structures across Scotland to be lit up red for this year's Remembrance.

The armed forces charity aims to have Scotland aglow in a "thoroughly modern display" of both Remembrance and awareness of the 2019 Scottish Poppy Appeal.

Last year, as part of the commemorations of the centenary of the end of the First World War, almost 200 locations lit up, including The Royal and Ancient Clubhouse in St Andrews, Rosslyn Chapel and Turnberry Lighthouse.

In Moray, Elgin Fountain at the Plainstones was lit red, as was Dufftown Clock Tower and even the animal pens at Elchies of Speyside farm.

The charity is calling on custodians of schools, churches, council buildings, monuments, statues and landmarks to join up.

Any and all structures can be part of the light-up between November 4-11. Red gel filters can be used in external lights to illuminate premises red.

Last year included castles and cathedrals, racecourses, cranes, fountains and even a telephone box.

Gordon Michie, head of fundraising, said: "It is wonderful to know that Scotland will be lighting up red once again for this year’s Poppy Appeal, and we continue to be touched by the country’s support.

"It is so striking and poignant to witness buildings up and down the country glowing red in tribute to Scotland's armed forces community, past and present."
